SHONBRÉ RANKIN
SECRETARY OF THE BOARD
SHONBRE@SPIRITOFREFUGE.ORG

Shonbré Rankin serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors. She helps steward the governance, records, and communications that allow Spirit of Refuge to do what it was built to do — respond in the emergency, and stay for the restoration. That work reaches individuals and families in crisis across Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama, and it depends on the kind of behind-the-scenes structure most people never see: the standards, the partnerships, and the documentation that turn compassion into something communities can actually rely on.

Shonbré came to it by way of the newsroom. A native of Collins, Mississippi, she spent her career in television news as a producer at WDAM in the Pine Belt, KOMO News in Seattle, Washington, and ABC 24 in Memphis, Tennessee. Years of deciding which voices reached the air taught her something she carries into this work: telling the story is not the same as answering the need.

She holds a Master of Professional Studies in Public Relations from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, with a minor in Marketing, from the University of Southern Mississippi — training she now brings to Spirit of Refuge's outreach, partnership development, and institutional record.

For her, the calling is plain:

"I have a heart of serving. It's our duty as people of God — as God's children — to help those in need."
